In this course we will explore fifty of the most common questions about Judaism. There are fun, off-the-beaten-track questions, like why there are so many Jews in Hollywood, why we say l'chaim and mazal tov, and why we eat cholent and gefilte fish; to more controversial questions, such as why the bible seems to sanction slavery and animal sacrifices. There are questions about antisemitism, Christianity, and the roles of men and women in Judaism. There are questions about Jewish practice, scandalous biblical narratives, Jewish food, synagogue services, paradoxes of Jewish identity, and much more.
